Day 17 - Sunset on the Staten Island Ferry

On Saturday we all slept in until around 10am. After we all got ready, we met Tamara and Philippe to go and eat breakfast at an American diner. When we arrived at the diner, we saw the queue that was waiting outside the restaurant and discussed if we want to go to a different restaurant. We ended up going to “five napkin burger” but had to split into two groups. We ate pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon and the portions were more than enough.

When everyone finished eating, we returned to the apartment to get ready to go for a walk on the Highline. We got to the start of the Highline by walking along the Hudson River.  It was a little crowded, but we weren’t in a hurry and just enjoyed the nice weather. We saw some special buildings along the way and decided to leave the Highline to visit the Little Island. The atmosphere on the island was amazing! There was a brass band playing with their whole heart and people dancing to the music.

After a while, we made our way to the next metro station to take a train to the Staten Island ferry. We heard that the ferry drives by the Statue of liberty and wanted to take pictures and enjoy the view. We planned on just staying on the ferry and driving right back but heard that it’s not allowed and that we must wait for the next ferry in the waiting area…

Half an hour later we were boarding the next ferry and realized that having to wait was the best thing that could have happened to us because the sun was going down and we saw the most amazing sunset while driving back.

All of us were overwhelmed by the beautiful colors of the sky and the amazing view of the skyline and the statue of liberty.

By the time we arrived at the ferry port, the sun had set almost completely, and we decided to get food before we make our way home to our apartment. Everyone except for Chiara and me (Noemi) went to Five Guys. Since we ate a lot of fast food and burgers already, Chiara and I went to grab a salad at “just salad”.

We ended the evening at our apartment by playing card games until 01:30am.
