Day 2 – Sightseeing and Swiss Embassy

After our first night in New York, we had not slept very well because of the time difference, although the beds are very comfortable and the apartment is very nice and spacious for being in NY.

Preparation

On our first full day in New York, we all got together with Adrian, Tamara and Philippe to visit the Swiss Embassy. We met at 8 a.m. to go get the SIM cards, right after installing them Adrian gave us the Metro Cards and explained how the subway works. During the day he made us practice with the subway. Around 10 o’clock we had our breakfast. After breakfast we went to Central Park and Grand Central Terminal where there is also the Apple store.

Swiss Embassy

At 12 o’clock we went to the building located at 633 3rd Avenue and at the front desk they asked us to show them for passport to get in, then we went up to the 30th floor. From the waiting room there was a wonderful view, next we were greeted by Cyndia who seated us in the meeting room where Steve the Deputy Consul of the Swiss Consulate in NY was waiting for us, who told us a little about his work and what the consulate is all about. After this, we went back to our apartment so that we could change, and we were scheduled to meet with Adrian and the supervisors at 3 pm.

Sightseeing

Afterwards, Adrian showed us a bit of the city, especially Manhattan downtown showing us the World Trade Center, what is left of the 9/11 disaster and the Survival Tree, Trinity Church, the Battery park, New York Stock Exchange, Wall street and much more. To end the evening we went to the Brooklyn bridge and then returned to the Airbnb tired.
