Day 6 – Tenafly High School

Today we visited Tenafly High School in New Jersey. We met Mr. D there. He is the Administrator of this High School. We went to a BBQ restaurant for dinner.

The Way to Tenafly

To get to Tenafly High School, we first took the metro to George Washington Bridge. We walked over the bridge to New Jersey and then we took a Lyft to the High School.

The walk over the bridge took about 12min. We were able to see the Skyline of New York and the Hudson River below the bridge.

Before Lunch

We were welcomed by Mr. D.

First, we needed to get checked in. We got an orange sticker which we needed to stick to our hoodie, so that the others could see that we were visitors.

We headed directly to the so called “Cyber Coffee”. Mr. D told us about the school there.

Then we could explore the library. They have a Broadcasting studio, which was very interesting, because we never seen that before. They got Several expensive Cameras which were donated because the TV-Studios didn’t use them anymore, Several Locations to Broadcast.

We ate at the cafeteria for Lunch. It wasn’t as bad as they say in movies.

After Lunch

Mr. D offered us some Doughnuts and cookies, which were very delicious.

Then we went to visit the following classes.

  • History class
  • Chinese class
  • Italian class
  • Spanish class
  • Design Engineering class
  • Music class
  • Physical Science class
  • Volleyball practice
  • Gym
  • Outdoor Sport area

In the Spanish class, Ainoha took over the role as a teacher for several minutes, which was funny.

In the Music class they played an orchestra for us, it was really impressing.

What we noticed:

  • The Teachers are
    • more open
    • Funnier
    • better Motivators
  • The school looks just like in the Movies
    • They had lockers just like in the movies
    • The building itself looked just like in the movies
  • All of them were open, funny and happy

Before we left, we took a picture outside, next to the Swiss flag.

The way home

We wanted to take a Lyft again to the bridge and then walk over.

The problem was, the Lyft didn’t have enough space for us, so we ordered an Uber which didn’t find the way to the school. Mr. D was so kind to offer to drive us to George Washington Bridge. So, we got in his car, and he drove us. During the ride he noticed that one of his tires was flat, so we needed to make a stop at a gas station.

After about 10min he dropped us in front of the Goerge Washington bridge. Then we walked over the Bridge and got home by metro then.

Dinner

Adrian suggested to eat at a Barbecue restaurant in Harlem called Dinosaur Barbecue. It was delicious, we already planned to go there another day.
